What This Means for You

If your passport is Indian, Nigerian, Pakistani, Philippine, Bangladeshi, Vietnamese or Chinese, budget the consular fee for your mission plus the centre's charge, gather six months of bank statements and a confirmed itinerary, and apply well ahead: ten working days in India and Manila, three weeks in Lagos, and at least two months in Pakistan. Check first whether the Jeju or transit waivers cover your trip.

Overview

The C-3-9 short-term visit visa is the tourist visa for nationalities outside Korea's waiver, which includes India, China, the Philippines, Vietnam, Indonesia, Nigeria, Pakistan, Bangladesh and most of Africa and the Middle East. Business meetings and events use the C-3-1 or C-3-4, visits to family the C-3-1 with an invitation, and all three share the same process and fee schedule. Since 1 July 2020 no sticker is placed in the passport; an approved applicant prints a Visa Grant Notice from the Korea Visa Portal and shows it at check-in and the border.

Fees and timing by mission. Korea sets consular fees by reciprocity and each mission publishes its own, so the figures below are the ones the site's audiences will actually pay: - India: Rs3,600 single entry up to 90 days, Rs5,400 single entry over 90 days, Rs6,300 double entry, Rs8,100 multiple entry, under the revision effective 1 August 2026; express Rs6,300, Rs8,100, Rs9,900 and Rs11,700. The centre charges Rs1,100. Standard processing ten working days, plus ten more if documents or an interview are requested. Lodged at VFS Global (New Delhi, Kolkata, Chennai, Bengaluru) or BLS International (Mumbai, Hyderabad) - Nigeria: NGN 60,000 single entry up to 90 days, NGN 90,000 over 90 days, NGN 105,000 double entry within six months, NGN 135,000 multiple entry within a year, per the Lagos office. Ten to fifteen business days, longer under high demand. Lagos office in Ikoyi, or the visa centre in Abuja for northern states - Pakistan: PKR 12,000 for up to 90 days, PKR 18,000 for 91 days or more, non-refundable, per the embassy notice of 23 December 2025. A minimum of eight weeks. In person at the embassy in Islamabad, or the consulate in Karachi for Sindh residents - Philippines: the embassy charges no consular fee for short visits by Philippine passports; the Korea Visa Application Center in Taguig charges PHP 1,000 from 25 August 2026, up from PHP 900. Ten working days, five for express. Applications through the KVAC or a designated travel agency, and an e-group visa for parties of three or more through the agencies since 27 June 2026 - Elsewhere: the embassy in Malaysia publishes RM 160 single, RM 240 long single, RM 280 double and RM 360 multiple for most nationalities from 1 July 2026, with different rates for 18 countries under reciprocity, which is a fair guide to the standard schedule

Group visa fee waiver: the USD 15 fee for group tourist visas is waived until 31 December 2026 for tour groups from China, Vietnam, the Philippines, Indonesia, India and Cambodia, per the Ministry of Justice via the Korea Tourism Organization on 7 July 2026.

Documents: every mission asks for the application form, a passport with at least six months' validity, a recent photo, round-trip flight reservation, hotel booking or an invitation with the host's ID, six months of bank statements, and proof of employment or study. Lagos requires statements issued by a branch in the city of application within 14 days; Islamabad requires six months of transaction history; India's centres require the form to be completed exactly as on the passport. Missions can call an interview.

Who does not need this visa: Jeju Island admits visa-required nationals for up to 30 days by direct international flight, except 23 nationalities including Nigeria, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Egypt, Ghana, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Myanmar, Iran and Iraq. Holders of a valid visa or residence for the United States, Canada, Australia, New Zealand or 32 European countries may enter for 30 days in transit to or from that destination, with the same exclusions.

Application Steps

1

Check the waivers first

Jeju by direct flight (30 days) or transit with a US, Canadian, Australian, New Zealand or European visa (30 days) may cover your trip. Nigerian, Pakistani, Bangladeshi and Egyptian passports are excluded from both.

2

Choose the category and gather documents

C-3-9 for tourism, C-3-1 for family visits and events, C-3-4 for business. Assemble the passport, form, photo, flights, hotel or invitation, six months of bank statements and proof of employment.

3

Book and attend the appointment

VFS or BLS in India, the Lagos office or Abuja centre in Nigeria, the embassy in Islamabad or consulate in Karachi, the KVAC in Taguig or a designated agency in the Philippines. Applications are in person.

4

Pay the fees

The consular fee for your nationality plus the centre's service charge, and the express surcharge if offered. Fees are not refunded if the visa is refused.

5

Wait, and respond to any request

Ten working days in India and Manila, 10 to 15 business days in Lagos, at least eight weeks in Pakistan. A request for more documents or an interview restarts the clock.

6

Print the Visa Grant Notice

Check status on the Korea Visa Portal and print the notice. There is no sticker; the notice and passport are what the airline and immigration check.

Common Reasons for Refusal

Understanding these can help you strengthen your application

  • 1Bank statements that are too short, issued too early, or show sudden deposits
  • 2Weak ties to the home country: no employment letter, no property or family evidence
  • 3Itinerary or bookings inconsistent with the stated dates
  • 4Previous overstay in Korea or refusals elsewhere disclosed on the form
  • 5Applying outside the mission for your place of residence
  • 6Suspected intention to work, especially where the applicant has relatives on work visas in Korea

If your application is refused: You will receive a letter explaining the reason. In most cases, you can reapply immediately with a stronger application addressing the concerns raised.

Ten working days for a complete application, and a further ten working days if the embassy asks for more documents or an interview. Apply at least a month before travel, and earlier around Korean holidays.

What are the South Korea visa fees for Nigerians?

NGN 60,000 for a single entry of up to 90 days, NGN 90,000 for a single entry of 91 days or more, NGN 105,000 for a double entry within six months and NGN 135,000 for multiple entries within a year, per the Lagos office of the embassy. Processing takes 10 to 15 business days and the office warns it can take longer. Do not pay any agent for an appointment.

Why does a South Korea visa take eight weeks from Pakistan?

The embassy's notice of 23 December 2025 states a minimum of eight weeks from receipt because every application from Pakistan undergoes additional verification. The fee is PKR 12,000 for up to 90 days or PKR 18,000 for longer, non-refundable, with six months of bank transaction history, flight and hotel reservations and proof of occupation required. Pakistani citizens are also excluded from the Jeju and transit waivers.

Is the South Korea visa free for Filipinos?

The consular fee is nil for short visits by Philippine passport holders; what you pay is the Korea Visa Application Center's processing fee, PHP 1,000 since 25 August 2026. Standard processing is ten working days, express five. Applications go through the KVAC in Taguig or one of the embassy's designated travel agencies, and groups of three or more can use the e-group visa through those agencies.

Can Chinese citizens get a South Korea visa fee waiver?

Tour groups can. The USD 15 group visa fee is waived until 31 December 2026 for groups from China, Vietnam, the Philippines, Indonesia, India and Cambodia. Individual Chinese applicants pay the consular fee set by the mission. The visa-free trial for Chinese tour groups ended on 30 June 2026 with no published extension as of 8 September 2026.

Does South Korea still issue visa stickers?

No, not since 1 July 2020. Approved applicants print a Visa Grant Notice from the Korea Visa Portal, and airlines and immigration verify it against the passport electronically. Keep a printed copy for check-in.
