Türkiye Visa-Free Entry: 90 Days in 180 for the UK, US, EU, China and Others
Who enters Türkiye without a visa according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs: the 90-days-in-180 countries, Russia's 60 days, the 30-day rule for Thailand and Indonesia, China's exemption since 2 January 2026, and the passport validity rule.
What This Means for You
If your passport is British, American, Canadian, Australian, European, Japanese, Korean, Saudi, Brazilian or now Chinese, you need nothing but a passport valid five months beyond arrival, and you can spend 90 days in Türkiye in any 180. Do not buy an e-Visa from a third-party site; your nationality does not need one.
Overview
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs lists, country by country, whether ordinary passport holders need a visa for Türkiye. For the exempt majority the rule is 90 days in any 180-day period: a rolling total, counted across all visits, not a fresh 90 days per trip.
Exempt for 90 days in any 180 (ordinary passports): The United Kingdom, the United States, Canada, Australia (tourism and transit), New Zealand, Ireland, France, Germany, Italy, Spain, Poland, Portugal, Romania and the rest of the EU, Japan, South Korea, Malaysia, Saudi Arabia, Israel, Argentina, Brazil, Peru, Colombia, Morocco, Iran, Ukraine, Lebanon (90 days within six months from first entry, tourism and transit), and the People's Republic of China since 2 January 2026.
Other periods: Russia, 60 days for tourism and business. Thailand, 30 days. Indonesia, 30 days per entry within 90 in any 180.
Recently changed: The United States, Canada, Australia and the United Kingdom were e-Visa countries until 2023 and 2024 and are now exempt; the ministry's entries use the 90-in-180 wording for all four. China moved from e-Visa to exempt on 2 January 2026.
The passport rule: Since 1 January 2015 foreigners must carry a passport valid for at least 60 days beyond the duration of stay of their visa or exemption. For a 90-day exempt visitor that is 150 days beyond arrival, the figure the UK government gives its citizens, and the ministry advises six months to be safe. One blank page is needed.
What the exemption covers: Tourism, visiting friends and family, and for most countries business meetings; the ministry's wording varies, and Lebanon's and Australia's are limited to tourism and transit. Work, study, journalism and any stay beyond the period need a visa or residence permit.
Border practice: Entry is stamped on arrival at airports; at land borders the UK government advises making sure officials stamp and date the passport, because an unstamped entry can later be treated as an overstay.
