What This Means for You

If you are Vietnamese, South African or Mexican, apply at evisa.gov.tr and fly. If you are Indian, Pakistani, Bangladeshi, Filipino, Nepali, Sri Lankan or a working-age Iraqi or Egyptian, check that your Schengen, US, UK or Irish visa is valid on your entry date before you pay; without one, the e-Visa is not available to you and you need the sticker visa.

Overview

The e-Visa system was launched by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on 17 April 2013 and, in the ministry's words, lets visitors obtain their visa online "in approximately three minutes". It is valid only when the purpose of travel is tourism or commerce; for work, study or anything else, visas come from Turkish embassies and consulates.

Nationalities that get it without conditions: Vietnam ("single-entry electronic visas valid for stays of up to 30 days"), South Africa ("one month period single entry visas" online, or three-month multiple entry from missions), Mexico ("30-day single-entry e-visas", or 90-day multiple entry from missions), and Taiwan (single entry, one month, "provided that they meet certain conditions"). Egyptians under 15 or over 45 also qualify without conditions.

Nationalities that need a supporting visa: The ministry's entries for India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Nepal, Sri Lanka and the Philippines require "a valid Schengen members or USA, UK, Ireland visa or residence permit" for a "single entry e-Visa valid for one month". Iraqis aged 15 to 50 are under the same rule, as are Egyptians aged 15 to 45, who must additionally fly with Turkish Airlines, AJet, Pegasus, EgyptAir or Air Cairo. The supporting visa must be valid when you enter Türkiye; an expired one is refused at the airport even if the e-Visa was issued.

Nationalities that cannot use it: Nigeria, Kenya, Ghana, Ethiopia, Uganda, Tanzania and Myanmar, whose entries say only that a visa is required. They use the sticker visa.

Nationalities that no longer need it: The United Kingdom, United States, Canada, Australia and, since 2 January 2026, China, all now exempt.

Fee: Set by nationality and shown on evisa.gov.tr after you select your country. The ministry's published table of 10 November 2014 lists USD 15 to USD 80 for 38 countries, most at USD 20, Australia and Canada at USD 60, Bahrain at USD 80, Mexico and South Africa at no fee. The Cairo embassy's notice quotes USD 20 for Egyptians. The portal's figure is the one charged, and third-party sites add a mark-up for the same form.

Validity and stay: The conditional e-Visa is single entry with a stay of up to 30 days. The portal shows the validity window at application; enter within it, and the 30 days count from entry. It cannot be extended or converted inside Türkiye.

Documents at the border: Printed e-Visa, the supporting visa or residence permit for conditional nationalities, a passport valid 60 days beyond the stay, and, per the Cairo embassy's list, a return ticket, hotel reservation and funds of about USD 50 a day.

Eligibility Requirements

  • Nationality the ministry lists as e-Visa eligible, unconditionally (Vietnam, South Africa, Mexico, Taiwan, Egyptians under 15 or over 45) or with a supporting visa (India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, the Philippines, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Iraqis aged 15-50, Egyptians aged 15-45)
  • For conditional nationalities, a Schengen, US, UK or Irish visa or residence permit valid on the date of entry
  • Purpose is tourism or commerce; not work, study or journalism
  • Passport valid at least 60 days beyond the intended stay
  • For Egyptians aged 15-45, arrival with Turkish Airlines, AJet, Pegasus, EgyptAir or Air Cairo

Confirm your nationality's rule

Read the ministry's one-line entry. Exempt nationalities do not need an e-Visa; sticker-visa nationalities cannot use it.

2

Check the supporting visa

Conditional nationalities need a Schengen, US, UK or Irish visa or residence permit valid on the entry date. An ESTA or ETA is not a visa.

3

Apply at evisa.gov.tr

Select nationality and travel document, enter dates, personal details and the supporting visa, pay the fee shown.

4

Print and carry

Airlines check the e-Visa and the supporting visa at boarding; immigration checks both again.

Common Reasons for Refusal

Understanding these can help you strengthen your application

  • 1Supporting visa expired or not of the qualifying type
  • 2Nationality outside the e-Visa scheme
  • 3Egyptian applicant aged 15-45 arriving on a non-listed airline
  • 4Purpose other than tourism or commerce
  • 5Passport validity under 60 days beyond the stay
  • 6Details on the e-Visa not matching the passport

If your application is refused: You will receive a letter explaining the reason. In most cases, you can reapply immediately with a stronger application addressing the concerns raised.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can Pakistani citizens get a Türkiye e-Visa?

Only with a valid Schengen, US, UK or Irish visa or residence permit, for a one-month single entry, per the ministry. Without one, Pakistanis apply for the sticker visa through Anatolia Travel Services at PKR 52,200 for a three-month single entry.

Can Bangladeshi citizens get a Türkiye e-Visa?

Under the same condition: a valid Schengen, US, UK or Irish visa or residence permit. Otherwise the sticker visa is lodged through Mosaic Visa in Dhaka, the only authorised centre since 1 February 2026.

Does a US ESTA or UK ETA count as a supporting visa?

No. The ministry's wording is "visa or residence permit". Electronic travel authorisations issued to visa-exempt travellers are not visas and do not qualify.

Is the Türkiye e-Visa single or multiple entry?

Single entry for the conditional nationalities and for Vietnam, South Africa, Mexico and Taiwan, with a 30-day stay. Multiple-entry visas for South Africans (three months) and Mexicans (90 days) come from Turkish missions, not the portal.

Can Vietnamese citizens get a Türkiye e-Visa without a Schengen visa?

Yes. Vietnam is one of the unconditional e-Visa nationalities: single entry, up to 30 days, from evisa.gov.tr.

Why do sites charge USD 100 or more for a Türkiye e-Visa?

They are resellers adding a service charge to the ministry's fee. The official site is evisa.gov.tr, and the ministry's own table runs from USD 15 to USD 80.
