Thailand offers visa-free entry to citizens of many countries for short tourism visits.

Indians are eligible for visa exemption (30 days since 15 September 2026).

What changed on 15 September 2026: The Royal Gazette published the new rules on 31 August 2026 (Vol. 143, Special Issue 207 Ngor). The 60-day exemption was replaced by a 30-day exemption for 60 nationalities, a 15-day exemption for Mauritius and Seychelles, and visa on arrival for Azerbaijan, Belarus and Serbia only. 21 nationalities lost visa-free entry altogether. Anyone admitted before 15 September keeps the stay granted on entry. The Thailand Digital Arrival Card (TDAC) remains mandatory and free.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do Indians need visa for Thailand?

No. India is on the visa-exemption list published in the Royal Gazette on 31 August 2026: since 15 September 2026 Indian passport holders get 30 days visa-free (extendable once by up to 30 days), and anyone admitted before that date keeps the 60 days granted on arrival. Claims that Indians need a visa on arrival are false — visa on arrival is limited to Azerbaijan, Belarus and Serbia.

Can I extend visa exemption stay?

Yes, once. Visit an immigration office before your stamp expires and apply for an extension of up to 30 days. A fee applies — 1,900 THB is the reported amount.

What if I don't have THB 20,000 cash?

You can show equivalent in other currencies ($500, etc.). ATM cards are not accepted as proof.

Can I work on visa exemption?

No. Any work is prohibited. You need a work permit and appropriate visa.

How many times can I use visa exemption?

By air there is no fixed limit, but frequent entries may raise suspicion and immigration may deny entry if they suspect you're living in Thailand on tourist stamps. Since 15 September 2026, visa-exempt entries at land borders are capped at two per calendar year (Malaysian, Bruneian, Indonesian and Singaporean nationals are exempt from the cap).
