Malaysia eVisa: Fees, Processing and Requirements for Bangladeshi, Pakistani, Nigerian and Sri Lankan Passports

The eVisa is the standard visa for the 31 nationalities on Malaysia's visa-required list. It is applied for online at the Immigration Department's portal, decided in two working days as the government's published standard, and printed by the applicant; no sticker is placed in the passport.

Who applies: Citizens of Bangladesh, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Bhutan, Afghanistan, Nigeria, Ghana, Ethiopia, Colombia, Serbia, Montenegro, Angola, Burkina Faso, Burundi, Cameroon, the Central African Republic, both Congos, Djibouti, Equatorial Guinea, Eritrea, Guinea-Bissau, Ivory Coast, Liberia, Mali, Mozambique, Niger and Rwanda, Myanmar under the ASEAN exclusion, holders of Hong Kong Documents of Identity, and Indian citizens who want a multiple-entry visa or who travel after the exemption ends. Applications must be made from the applicant's own country of nationality or residence, and the portal does not accept registrations from Israel or North Korea.

Fees: Three parts. The RM 105 processing fee, charged on every application. The consular visa fee for your nationality from the Immigration Department's table: RM 20 for Bangladesh, Pakistan, Nepal and Bhutan; RM 15 for Sri Lanka; RM 19.50 for Myanmar; RM 50 for India; RM 30 for China; and RM 20 for any nationality not on the table, which includes Nigeria, Ghana, Ethiopia and Colombia. And the payment gateway charge, 0.8% for card payments and up to 1.7% for e-wallets. A Bangladeshi single-entry eVisa therefore costs RM 125 plus the gateway charge; the High Commission in Dhaka puts the processing fee alone at about BDT 2,500 and the visa fee at about BDT 600.

Validity and stay: A single-entry eVisa is valid for three months from the date of issue for one entry and a stay of up to 30 days. A multiple-entry eVisa is valid for one year with 30 days per entry and no extension. The Immigration Department also issues a one-year multiple-entry social visit visa to Indian citizens for RM 100 and Chinese citizens for RM 30.

Documents: Passport valid for at least six months with blank pages, a recent photograph, confirmed return flight, accommodation booking, and evidence of funds. Business visitors add an invitation from the Malaysian company; visitors to family add the host's identity document and proof of relationship. The Dhaka High Commission's checklist is the model for South Asian applicants.

Conditions: The government portal lists them as a valid passport, no record on the Immigration Department's suspect list or the stolen and lost travel document system, not being a prohibited immigrant, and sufficient funds. The eVisa does not permit work or study, and a visa with reference is needed for those.

Timing: Two working days is the published standard. Allow a week for queries, apply no earlier than three months before travel because the visa's validity runs from issue, and print the approval; airlines check it at boarding.
