India Visa on Arrival: Japan, South Korea and UAE Nationals
India's 60-day visa on arrival: who qualifies, the six airports where it is issued, the INR 2,000 fee, and how it compares with the e-Visa.
What This Means for You
If you hold a Japanese or South Korean passport, or a UAE passport and have had an Indian visa before, you can land at one of six big airports and buy a 60-day double-entry visa for INR 2,000. Bring a passport with six months left, cash for the fee, your return ticket and hotel details, and file the e-Arrival Card the day before you fly.
Overview
India offers a visa on arrival to a very short list of nationalities: Japan, South Korea, and the United Arab Emirates, with the UAE limited to nationals who have previously held an Indian e-Visa or regular visa. It is granted by the immigration officer at six international airports and is meant for short visits for business, tourism, conference and medical purposes.
Conditions set by the government: - Stay not exceeding 60 days, with the officer able to grant a double-entry visa valid up to 60 days - Passport with a minimum of six months validity - Fee of INR 2,000 or the equivalent in foreign currency per passenger, including children - Available only at Bengaluru, Chennai, Delhi, Hyderabad, Kolkata and Mumbai airports - Non-extendable and non-convertible - Not available to anyone whose parents or grandparents were born in or were permanent residents of Pakistan - Not available to holders of diplomatic or official passports
Visa on arrival or e-Visa? All three nationalities are also eligible for the e-Visa, and for Japanese passports every e-Tourist validity costs only US$25. The e-Visa is the safer choice when you are flying into any airport other than the six above, when you want more than 60 days or more than two entries in a year, or when you would rather not queue at the counter after a long flight. The visa on arrival is convenient for a last-minute business trip to a major city when there is no time for the four-day e-Visa lead time.
Every visa on arrival holder must still submit the free e-Arrival Card within 72 hours before landing.
