Tanzanian citizens can visit South Africa without a visa for tourism purposes. Visa-exempt for 90 days per calendar year ("90 Days P/A") for ordinary passports per the Home Affairs Visa Exemption List (9 Dec 2025); the days accumulate across visits within the year; yellow fever certificate required at the border; SARS online traveller declaration required before travel since 1 July 2026 (free). The maximum permitted stay is 90 days per calendar year.

While no visa is required, Tanzanian passport holders must carry a valid passport and may be asked to present proof of onward travel, accommodation bookings, and evidence of sufficient funds at the border.

Ensure your Tanzanian passport has adequate validity before departure — most countries require at least 6 months beyond the planned stay. UK visa applications from Tanzania are handled at the VFS Global centre in Masaki, Dar es Salaam, opened as part of the 2024 Sub-Saharan rollout.
